Why someone would drive T4 to T6

The use case is narrower than the longer pairs, but real for residents of north Lichfield and Burntwood who work in Cannock or use Norton Canes services regularly.

  • Burntwood-to-Cannock commute. Daily 1-zone Breeze fare around £4.00, beats the free A5 route on time.
  • Norton Canes services run. EV chargers, Costa, KFC, McDonald's, M&S Food. Some residents detour for the rapid chargers.
  • Lichfield retail to Cannock retail. Three Spires (Lichfield) to Cannock Gateway is a 1-zone direct run.
  • Avoiding Brownhills. The A5 through Brownhills is the slowest stretch of free road in the area at any peak hour.

T4 to T6 FAQ

How much is T4 to T6 on the M6 Toll?
A car (Class 2) pays £6.70 contactless or £4.00 with a Breeze account, the 1-zone rate. Motorbikes are £3.80 (£2.00 Breeze). Class 3 (van or car-with-trailer) pays £10.20 (£6.00 Breeze).
Why is T4 to T6 only 1 zone?
T4 sits inside Zone 2 and T6 sits on the Zone 2 / Zone 3 boundary. Both ends of the journey fall within Zone 2, so the operator bills the single-zone rate. This is the same accounting that makes T1-to-T2 a 1-zone trip in Zone 1.
Is T4 to T6 the cheapest journey on the M6 Toll?
It is one of three 1-zone partial journeys, all priced identically: T1-to-T2 (southern), T4-to-T6 (central) and T6-to-T8 (northern). All three bill at £6.70 contactless for a car, or £4.00 Breeze. There is no single cheapest trip, only one set of 1-zone trips.
What is on this route?
T4 is the closest exit to Lichfield north (the cathedral side) and Burntwood. T6 is the closest exit to Norton Canes services and central Cannock retail. The 1-zone trip is around 7 miles of fast 70 mph motorway, useful for local Lichfield-to-Cannock business journeys without the slog through Brownhills on the A5.
Is Breeze worth it for a 1-zone T4 to T6 commuter?
Yes if you do more than 8 to 10 trips. The 1-zone Breeze discount is the biggest percentage discount on the M6 Toll, around 40% off the standard rate. A daily commuter pays roughly £1760 a year on Breeze versus £2948 on contactless. Save £1188 a year.
