Why T4 for Lichfield

Lichfield is served by more than one M6 Toll junction: T3 (Langley Mill) and T4 (Weeford) both in Zone B, plus T5 (Shenstone) on the A5127, which is a southbound exit only. The choice matters.

T4 for north Lichfield

Cathedral, the bishop's palace, Lichfield retail and Burntwood. Direct on the A5127.

T3 for south Lichfield

A38 corridor, Drayton Manor, Tamworth retail. Same 2-zone rate, different exit.

Same zone count

T1 to T3 and T1 to T4 both bill at 2 zones. Pick by destination, not by price.

T1 to T4 FAQ

How much is T1 to T4 on the M6 Toll?
A car (Class 2) pays £9.50 contactless or £8.40 on a Breeze account, the 2-zone rate. A motorbike pays £4.90 (£4.10 Breeze). Class 3 (car with trailer) is £14.10 (£12.30 Breeze). Class 4 (van, minibus or 2-axle HGV) is £17.30 (£15.50 Breeze).
Why does T1 to T4 cost 2 zones, not 3?
T4 sits inside Zone B. A T1 to T4 trip starts in Zone A (where T1 sits) and finishes in Zone B, so the operator bills 2 zones. You would only pay for 3 zones if the journey carried on into Zone C, which begins at the Great Wyrley plaza between T6 and T7.
What is at T4 to make this journey useful?
T4 is the operator's Weeford junction, where the toll crosses the A5 Watling Street and the A38 at Weeford Island. The A38 north from here runs into Lichfield and on to Burton; the A5 east runs to Tamworth. From the M42 and NEC corridor this is the cleanest access to the Lichfield side without doubling back through Tamworth or the city streets.
How long does T1 to T4 take?
Around 12 to 14 minutes on the toll at the 70 mph limit, plus 60 to 90 seconds at the southbound plaza between T3 and T4. Northbound traffic from T1 passes the plaza right before exiting at T4, so factor in plaza time both directions.
Does T1 to T4 cross a plaza?
Northbound: yes, you pass the southbound plaza area (the road infrastructure is shared) but the billing event happens by ANPR for your direction of travel. Southbound from T4: yes, you cross the southbound plaza between T3 and T4 just south of your entry. Contactless drivers tap once at the plaza; Breeze and Lite accounts handle billing automatically.
Is T1 to T4 cheaper than driving via Tamworth?
Time-wise yes, money-wise no. The free A38 / A453 alternative through Curdworth and Tamworth saves the £9.50 toll but adds 20 to 30 minutes at any weekday hour, and 45 minutes plus on a school-run morning. If you are heading to Lichfield Cathedral for a service or business meeting, the toll is the lower-stress option.
